The next fireplace is from Rick Rogina in Long Beach California.
Rick installed and converted everything in his home, watch and see as we explain the steps he went through:
Conversion of a Direct Vent Fireplace!
Installation of his Fireplace Surround!

This is what Rick had to start with, he knew there had to more than boredom!

If you look at the right, he is right on the beach!

Yes, this is a Direct Vent Fireplace, The one that all fireplace shops tell you that you can not convert. So I guess this is really not here. Only a DUMMY will tell you that you cannot convert a Direct Vent Fireplace.

We help/ assist in measuring to achieve the final result you want. There are several drawings we produce you to fill in the numbers. We double check everything.

Below, we made a card board mock up of mitered and beveled Surround. We strongly recommend this step to insure you get a preview. We're happy to build you two Surrounds, but one should be enough.

Below, we were working on a Surround and hearth for another customer. We had set up the Surround to give Rick a preview what it may look like with a hearth.

Rick's son drew (below) the two renderings of two different possibilities
The one below has 8" top and bottom and 6" sides

The one below has 4" top and bottom and 12" sides. Same fireplace, so many options.

The finished Surround has 10" top and bottom rails and 5" sides. It is a 4 piece construction. Horizontal grain on the top and bottom rails and vertical grain on the side rails.
When the Surround was first installed, Rick did not take in to account the location of the floor of the existing fireplace. We then built in a false floor, a floating pan if you will as you will see.

The glass Rick installed was Starfire and Ice, Ice, Ice
Below, the false floor is now in place.

We also installed the Sterling Silver Panels on the rear and sides. The pictures above and below has the elevated floor installed. (4" taller)

The picture below is of the completed Fireplace Surround, Direct Vent Conversion, FireGlass installation and if you notice, the FireBalls are 4" taller in the fireplace.. Looks great!

The two pictures below show 7 frames we made for Rick, 5 = 6" x 6" x 3/4" thick and 2 = 8" x 8" x 1" thick. These were 1/8" aluminum and brushed.
This was his design to accent the art work he had hanging in the middle.

We helped Rick convert his fire table on the deck, one spectacular view! This fire table was a propane conversion. That is teh Queen Mary in the back ground
